Ready Player One

I have been fortunate to read/listen to some amazing books this past year.  I’m continually amazed at the talent and creativity there is in this world.  All that said, I feel at a loss of what to say about Ready Player One by Ernest Cline beyond “Everyone should read this book!”

Well, not everyone.  Nerds, like me, who are obsessed with 80s culture should read this book.  Because if you are an 80s nerd this story and its characters are so wonderfully familiar and uniquely thrilling that you just want to be friends with Parzival, Aech, and Art3mis and join them on their quest.  Besides that, it is a wonderful mash up or nerdy 80s trivia and a grail quest that I just couldn’t put down.  All in all, it’s one of the best books I’ve read in a long time and I want everyone else to read it to.

As a side note, I would highly recommend listening to this book as an audio book.  It’s read by none other than Wil Wheaton!  Not only does his status as a nerd make it feel like this book could be about him, he actually gets to drop his own name.  It’s pretty neat.
